R.E.D. EMERGENCY MEDICAL ALERT
03/21/02
Lynwood, Washington

TrinaTrina needs your help

Trina's owner sobbed in the receiving room of the shelter. Clearly, this man loved his dog, intensely. Trina looked confused at her owners pain and tried to comfort him. How could she know, that she would not be leaving, with her beloved human. He was her life, her family, her friend, her leader and her ears. The owner hung on her for hours, before releasing her leash to caring PAWS staff. They led Trina away from her heartbroken owner to her shelter kennel. She was now alone, in her world of silence....

R.E.D. Rescue Every Dog , PAWS Of Lynnwood, and S.P.D.R.'s Team Rottweiler have joined forces to bring Trina's plight to the public. Trina, is a young 4 year old, 75lbs Rottweiler. She is a beautiful, bright, loving, intelligent girl. So, why is a dog that is so beautiful, intelligent and loving, after 6 weeks of shelter life, not adopted yet? Trina is deaf. She loves completely, just like other dogs. She is faithful just like other dogs. Trina learns just like other dogs, but must learn with sign language and hand signals. For most people that come to the shelter, they have no way to communicate with her, as they do not know sign language. She needs someone that will take time to learn the sign language she knows currently. She knows signs for the commands: sit, down, wait, "no" and she knows her name in American sign language. Trina needs an human companion that is interested in training and also expanding her signing vocabulary.

Trina has a very, very long list of volunteer comments in her paperwork, every one of them saying how sweet and cuddly she is. She plays nice with other dogs, but in typical rottie rough house style. Trina was tested with cats. She did not show clear cat aggression, but was very interested. We feel, she would do best in a NO cat home, due to this interest level, as it can not be clearly read, as cat safe. Trina has met lots and lots of people, at the shelter, during her stay, including kids and has been friendly with everyone.

An SPDR volunteer evaluated Trina also. Here are some of the comments made from that evaluation. Trina would let me dig in her mouth and ears. She showed no food aggression. She rolled over for me, let me hold and feel her paws and touch her everywhere. She is typical rottie in being insatiably curious and with her heightened sense of smell and sight, it makes her very, very focused. I didn't get complete eye contact from Trina for the whole hour+, I was with her. She was not willing to totally work with all commands as she was not yet bonded to me. She wants her owner back, she does not know this can not happen. She never challenged me at any point during our visit! She craves affection (full body hugs and snuggles). Her trust has been shattered. I feel that given time to settle into a home and with an understanding, but strong and patient and consistent owner, that she will tightly bond to a new person. She wants to, just can't give in to it now, in a shelter environment.Trina has a wonderful temperament- very balanced, confident, secure, proud. She's intelligent and obviously has a lot of tolerance. She knows how to work people to get what she wants. I think she's just great, but certainly will need an understanding home.

We feel Trina does Not need a home with Rottweiler experience, but certainly needs a home that has educated themselves on this strong, intelligent, dedicated breed and that has a good level of dog experience and desire and ability train a dog. Trina can not hear herself bark. So she barks loudly. She will need a home that does not leave her outdoors unattended alone for long periods for that reason.

The shelter staff and volunteers, at PAWS of Lynnwood, have come to love this dog. Many of them have taken the time to learn to speak with her in sign and found a delightful dog to converse with. But, like most highly intelligent and dedicated breeds, the Rottweiler does not do well in a kennel environment, for extended periods of time. Trina is showing signs of serious stress and depression. She needs a home NOW. Is there a human companion for, Trina, that will open their heart and home to her and be her life, her family, her friend, her leader and her ears? Is there a human that will teach her the sign for love? Can you save Trina?

Please go to our online adoption application if you would like to give Trina a loving home.

Please join us in the effort to save Trina and find her forever home. Pass this to another, life for Trina could be just one email away.
