Griz Takes A Journey --Written by Tiami L.
Coleburg
R.E.D. has a special friend named, Griz, in Pullman, Washington. The staff of Whitman County Humane had grown very fond of this handsome boy. Sadly it was discovered he had a serious, maybe fatal condition, that needed expensive surgery right away to save his life. The Whitman shelter could not afford the $1200.00 price tag veterinarians had quoted for the surgery. RED's Director got word of his plight and the broken hearted Whitman shelter staff. After consulting with our R.E.D. Medical Director, she generously offered to preform the surgery and also give him much needed dental work. That is if we could get him a ride...
That is where Patrick and Jennifer Hickey stepped in. They transported Griz over 1000 miles to save Griz's life. They also gave him a nice warm bath and a place to stay in their home the night before his surgery. The surgery went very well and Griz was a wonderful patient. When Griz was again a healthy, happy boy. He was returned to the Pullman Shelter to await his forever home. We were sure he will win the hearts of his forever home soon, as he sure won ours.
R.E.D. and the Whitman County Humane Shelter are happy to say our guess was correct and Griz was adopted with in a week of his return to the shelter. He has begun a new journey in life with his new human family.
Special thanks to Dr. Ginny, Patrick and Jennifer for making this life saving effort happen. |
